New Paper Alert: Late Pleistocene ENSO!
Our paper on ENSO change through the late Pleistocene is now out!
In this paper we analyzed Mg/Ca from over 1000 individual foraminifera using LA-ICPMS and found a significant correlation between the depth of the thermocline in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and El Niño amplitude, as well as central tropical Pacific variability. We show that this relationship persists across glacial-interglacial change and other alterations in the tropical Pacific background state, and argue that the thermocline is therefore a first-order control on ENSO strength.
This article is the result of a lot of hard work, and I cannot thank my co-authors enough for their assistance, perseverance, and patience.
