Imagery for the fossil park
TROPIC researcher Andromeda Kelly, assisted by Emma Rosenheim, generated microphotographs of various species and specimens of foraminifera as well as some sponge spicules, mollusks, and other fun things in our sediment cores. These images, and some like them, will be part of displays at the Edelman Fossil Park and Museum, opening in Spring 2024. Accompanying the imagery is text that describes how foraminifera are used to reconstruct past climates and their role in understanding current climate change.
This work was supported by NSF OCE 2202939 (ENSO Flavors) and OCE 2317228 (Core stratigraphy and paleotemperature to MIS 5e). The camera and microscope were purchased from these grants, and the work is part of the broader impacts for these projects. The final imagery will be on permanent display at the museum.
